Härnösand planned for and also built a CNG filling station. This work is part of their efforts to become a fossil-free municipality. The plan to offer this new alternative to its residents consists of the following steps: collecting household waste and building a recycling centre, a biomethane production plant and a CNG filling station. While waiting for their own biomethane production plant to be completed, they buy CNG from AGA.
This is a good example of how to start with a market introduction plan and how to develop concrete actions with clear objectives for what they wanted to achieve and how to cultivate the market. This includes a clear, visual profile so nobody could miss the biomethane project in Härnösand.
Inauguration of the first CNG/CBG filling station in Härnösand
The general public, politicians, companies and organisations were invited to a festival with speeches, ceremony and refreshments. Children and a magician entertained residents with songs and magic tricks. Everyone had the opportunity to test drive and refuel CNG cars. Balloons and candy were handed out to the children. The mayor of Härnösand municipality, Mr. Fred Nilsson, gave a speech about the importance of a CNG refuelling station in Härnösand and in the rest of northern Sweden. He also emphasised how the EU can strengthen the development of the regions, i.e. via the TEN-T funding programme and Europe in my Region/City.
The event was organised together with the neighbouring Highway Hotel and the local car dealers: Bilbolaget (Volvo / Renault), Berner (Wolksvagen/Skoda) and Dahlbom Bil (Subaru).
